GESTEVERT
Recognized for its expertise in responsible event organization and management, Gestev continually aims to minimize its negative impact on the environment while increasing the socio-economic benefits of its activities. Our objectives are based on the standards of the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) in responsible event management and on the significant advancements in the local and international industry.
We have therefore resolved to join forces with our partners to conceive, implement, and promote increasingly greener, more supportive, and more responsible actions in a creative and dynamic manner.
Green, united and responsible!
Certificat Crédit Carbone Éducatif
For the 2024 season, Je Cours Qc is proud to continue its partnership with the Carbon Scol’Ere Scholarship to reduce the negative impacts of its activities on the environment. At the time of registration, runners will have the opportunity to offset a portion of the emissions produced by the event. True to its commitments, the organization will also contribute to the Carbon Scol’Ere Scholarship.
SOME OF OUR SUSTAINABLE GESTURES DURING OUR JE COURS QC RACES :
- Promutuel Insurance Lévis Half-Marathon
- Duchesnay Trail Race
- Staircase Challenge
- Beneva Quebec City Marathon Presented by Montellier
Environnement
- Providing runners, visitors, volunteers and organizers with three-way waste recovery sites (recycling, composting and waste);
- Sorting of materials directly on site to ensure compost recovery;
- Eliminating 100% of single-use water bottles;
- Offering runners locally sourced (from Quebec) food when possible, such as Quebec apples provided by the Association des emballeurs de Pommes du Québec (AEPQ) and waffles from Bel-Gaufre.
- Donating surplus food to the Lauberivière organization;
- Eliminating plastic bags in the finish line area;
- Accounting for the GHG emissions generated by the travel of runners, visitors, volunteers, and organizers to set reduction objectives;
- Offering the option to forgo the participation medal and/or event shirt in exchange for a contribution to the Scol’ERE Carbon Exchange or a discount on registration.
Awareness
- Encouraging runners to bring their water bottles;
- Promoting active and collective transportation;
- Establishing a volunteer team to inform, sensitize, and mobilize visitors to the eco-responsible efforts made.
Community
- Develop a partnership with three associated causes for 2023: the Foundation of the University Institute of Cardiology and Pneumology of Quebec, the Foundation of the Psychopedagogical Center of Quebec, and the Foundation of the Center for Suicide Prevention of Quebec, to give the chance to runners to raise donations;
- Donating our surplus clothing as well as collected shoes and clothing to the Accès-Loisirs Québec organization.
Bib #321
Je Cours Qc is proud to join the “Runner 321” movement in collaboration with the Regroupement pour la Trisomie 21 (RT21). Starting from the 2023 edition of the Beneva Marathon of Québec, bib #321, a significant number in the trisomic community, will be reserved for a participant with trisomy 21. This initiative aims to ensure that every neurodivergent athlete feels represented in the world of running.
In an effort to fulfill our commitments, we have implemented a few actions specifically for the Beneva Quebec City Marathon presented by Montellier :
- Eliminate plastic bags in the arrival corridor and offer a reusable bag;
- Secure and free bicycle parking will be available for runners, visitors and volunteers (see the information in the section Parking).
We have also implemented some actions for the Duchesnay Trail Coureur des Bois:
- To continue our environmentally friendly approach for the 4th consecutive year, runners will not receive a participation medal at the end of the event. Our organization will provide each participant with a herb plant, a green choice that can endure over time. In addition, participants will receive a reusable souvenir in place of the usual race shirt given in other Je Cours Qc series events.
- Provide runners with a bulk buffet for their post-race snack to significantly reduce waste generation.
- Je Cours Qc strongly encourages all participants in its various events to prioritize carpooling in order to reduce the environmental impact of these events. With this in mind, a shuttle service from Quebec City is available for participants of the Lévis Half-Marathon and the Duchesnay Trail Coureur des Bois to travel directly to the respective event sites. This initiative aims to reduce the number of cars on the road on race days, thereby decreasing the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere.
Thank you to our partners, suppliers and employees for supporting the organization of environmentally responsible events!
